Detailed information
In 2024, September 17th will be Vinayaka Chaturthi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, commemorating the birth of Lord Ganesha. During the celebration, clay statues of Ganesha are placed in homes and public areas. Ganesha loves modaks, thus there are elaborate decorations, rituals, and prayers associated with the festival. Bhajans, cultural activities, and big processions are common features of public festivals. The immersion (Visarjan) of the idols in water on September 27 marks the end of the festival and the return of Ganesha the next year. Eco-friendly idols are being utilised more often to reduce their negative effects on the environment. Regional celebrations differ, with Maharashtra organising especially large-scale activities.
