Even if Modi is to contest against me, I will win: Shashi Tharoor

Shashi Tharoor, a Congress leader, expressed his readiness to contest for the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat in 2024, possibly his last bid. Regardless of potential competition, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tharoor confidently asserted his victory during a TV discussion on his future plans.

While indicating his willingness to run again, Tharoor acknowledged that the final decision rests with the party. He declared, 'This would be my last contest to the Lok Sabha.' Responding to speculations about Modi's candidacy from Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor boldly stated, 'Even if Modi is to contest against me, I will win.'

Emphasizing his candidacy on merit, Tharoor expressed that voters have the right to choose based on his record rather than his opponents. Reflecting on his political journey, he mentioned his initial desire to become the Union Minister for External Affairs, leaving the decision to the people.

Regarding potential participation in the Kerala Assembly, Tharoor prioritized the Lok Sabha polls for now, stating, 'Depending on the circumstances then, at that time, will look into it.'

A former undersecretary general at the United Nations, Tharoor's foray into Indian politics began with a surprise party ticket in 2009. Despite facing personal challenges, such as the untimely death of his wife in 2014, Tharoor secured three consecutive Lok Sabha wins. His distinctive style of functioning, different from typical Congress MPs, resonates positively with voters, evident in his significant winning margins.

In the 2019 polls, Tharoor triumphed with a margin of 99,989 votes, showcasing widespread public support. As he engages in pre-poll campaigning, his consistent presence at various venues indicates a proactive approach to connect with constituents.
