PM Modi Calls for Probe, Oppn Demands Parliament Statement on Lok Sabha Security Breach

In his initial response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the necessity for an investigation into the incident, emphasizing the importance of scrutiny over debate.

New Delhi: On Sunday, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh hinted that the ongoing deadlock between the Opposition and the government regarding the Lok Sabha security breach would persist until Home Minister Amit Shah addresses the Parliament. Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first remarks on the security breach, Ramesh accused him of evading a debate to shield BJP MP Pratap Simha, alleging that Simha's office had issued access passes to the two intruders.

The Opposition has consistently called for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament regarding the breach. Last Thursday, 14 MPs faced suspension for the remainder of the Winter Session due to "unruly" behavior.

"The Prime Minister has finally broken his silence on the extraordinary events in the Lok Sabha on December 13th. He says a probe is needed and not a debate, and that such a probe is underway. All that political parties in India are asking for and will continue to press for is a statement by the Home Minister on what happened on December 13th and how exactly it happened," Ramesh stated in a post on X.

"The PM is avoiding a debate for a very simple reason. Questions will be raised on the role of Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha in facilitating the entry of the intruders into the Lok Sabha on December 13th," he added.

The individuals entered the visitors' gallery, causing commotion with smoke canisters. They were eventually subdued by members of Parliament, and five people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

In an interview with Dainik Jagran, PM Modi stated that probe agencies are actively investigating the matter and taking stringent action against the perpetrators of the security scare.

"Efforts should also be made to seek a solution with a collective spirit. Everyone should avoid squabbling over such an issue," he emphasized.

Modi, in his first comments on Wednesday's breach, remarked, "What happened is very serious."

"There is no need to debate this; there should be a detailed investigation into this," he added.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi asserted that PM Modi should address the Parliament on the security breach, emphasizing the need for his presence in the legislative body.

"PM Modi should also speak in the Parliament on the security breach like he is speaking to a newspaper, and Union Home Minister is speaking to a TV channel," she told ANI.
